What is a virus?
A computer virus is a
computer program that can copy itself and infect a
computer without permission or knowledge of the user
Why should you care?
Some viruses are programmed to damage the computer
by damaging programs, deleting files, or reformatting the
hard disk
How do I know if I have a virus?
A virus will
typically take up
computer memory used by legitimate programs. As a
result, they often cause erratic behavior and can result in
system crashes. In addition, many viruses are
bug-ridden, and these bugs may lead to system crashes
and
data loss.
What can you do to prevent viruses?
There are many antivirus software packages
available. Piller Development prefers
Microsoft's One Care.
I purchased Antivirus Software 3 years ago, why do I
still have viruses?
Generally speaking, most Antivirus software has an
annual contract, meaning that you have to renew every year
or your virus definitions can be come 'out of date'. Hackers
are writing new viruses everyday, so its important to have
your antivirus software up to date.
How do I know if my antivirus is up to date?
Every antivirus software I have ever seen will remind you
(sometimes daily) that their
software is out of date. If you
purchased your computer from Dell, Best Buy or some
other
reputable dealer then chances are you already have antivirus
software installed
on the machine. To verify, contact your
salesman at your local retailer. If you are out of date,
contact
Piller Development and we can help.
